Does landlord insurance cover tenant-caused damages?
The short answer is it depends. Insurers have three categories of tenant caused damages:
Accidental Damage. Things a renter accidentally does that causes a covered loss, such as breaking a window.
Intentional Damage. Insurance companies may label this as “Malicious Damage.” If a tenant intentionally puts a hole in a wall, the coverage will depend on the terms of your policy.
Wear and Tear. This is generally excluded as insurance is designed to cover sudden and unpredictable events.
